Living the Life of The Spirit
This is what marks the difference between a believer in Christ and the non-believer. When God gives us His spirit upon our faith in Jesus, this is where new life begins. In Romans 6, we have been freed from our slavery to sin and we are not to sin more in order to increase God's grace. Our old self has been nailed to the cross and in Christ we have been raised to a new life. It is Christ in me that I live and breathe and act accordingly. It is God's spirit that directs and controls me. Romans 8:12-13 sum it up quite nicely.
12 So
then, brethren, we are debtors, but not to the flesh [we are not
obligated to our carnal nature], to live [a life ruled by the standards
set up by the dictates] of the flesh.
13 For
if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely
die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually]
putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted
by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever.
It is in working with the Spirit that I put to death the evil deeds of the body and am able to walk in newness of life. As someone pointed it out in Matthew 4:19, Jesus will make me a fisher of men. It is His doing not mine. It is through prayer and reading the Bible that I am able to get in step with His spirit. He makes all things possible. He amazes me because I know not how He does it. He just does.
It is this newness of life that should draw others to Christ, yet, I am guilty of letting my sinful nature get the best of me at times. However, I am grateful that God forgives me when I fall short and He is able still work it all out for His glory.
To the believer, I encourage you to walk in the newness of Life in Christ and to the non-believer, I encourage you to draw near to God and He will draw near to you so that you may know the riches of His grace.
My Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, thank you for giving me Your Spirit and help me to continue to walk in newness of life in Christ to Your glory. May others ee Jesus in me. Amen.
